Some gifts are as fragile as they are valuable and need to be handled with the deepest feeling and care. My gift is the opportunity to fly. I am given feathers to build myself wings that will carry me across the world skies, but I am afraid I might brake them. I am afraid I might destroy this wonderful gift so I ask: Is this the right time? Can I trust myself to use them properly? Should I not keep the feathers somewhere safe for later? For sometime later when I might feel more able?
THE INSTALLATION
A sound/object installation using two rooms in an old stone cellar with low ceiling. On the floor of the main room are three feathers conserved in three materials: wax, plastic and plaster. Next to them are three imprints of the same feathers in the same material. The only light in the space is a spotlight lighting the feathers. Through a small arch leading into a pitch black side room comes the sound of a fluttering bird. Every once in a while a single tone from a piano makes the bird sit down a bit before it flutters again. The space is open for the audience to enter and leave as they wish.
