Five abandoned buildings are resting solitary at Senja. They bear traces from a vivid past, but the future is less certain for the creaking boards and piles of dust over old tools. Was it freedom what was? Or is it freedom what comes now?
Frihet er å sykle is a theatre installation in the suspense between different ways to perceive freedom; between the local resident of Senja, the history of philosophy and empty buildings in societies threatened by depopulation. Rimfrost Teaterensemble has created a performance installation that inspires reflection on and around the topic of freedom related to how and where you choose to live. By using documentary strategies the artists have met, interviewed and collaborated with individuals in the several small communities of Senja and based the performance installation on this material. The installation takes place in five very different buildings widely spread over the island that only have this one fact in common: they no longer fulfill the purpose for which they were created. The installation will be shaped by the history and form of each location, but will above all strive to make an experience that will rise new perspectives on freedom both for the locals and visitors.
The project is further presented on www.frisenja.wordpress.com (only in norwegian).
