Shooting from the hip
09.11.12 DNS, Lille Scene, Bergen
15-16.09.12 Caféteateret, Oslo
(Videostills from video by Leo Preston)
Created and performed by Hanna Barfod, Tijmen Legemaate, Erik Ebert and Susanne Irene Fjørtoft
A ten minute performance produced and shown as a part of the project Kunstikit (www.kunstikit.no).
Through a meeting with three other artists' work LIVESTOCK investigates the gap between what we are and what we should be in an attempt to find a third way and what it means to be good.
• 'Lydbibliotek' - Elin Øyen Vister
• 'One small step one giant leap' - Hjørdis Kurås
• 'Forskningsprosedyre' - Kunsthuset WRAP
Two approaches within LIVESTOCK on the topic of being good:
1:
"Being a good person must be to want the best for your surroundings and to feel concern, care, affection and empathy. I believe that it is important to reflect on the self and to be aware if your actions spur from a good or a bad place in yourself. Such reflection requires time, perspective and focus and it is important that we create a mental space in our community where we can work on this awareness. I think a good person is a balanced person who not only shows respect and humbleness towards others, but also towards themselves and their own ideas and needs."
2:
"When it comes to the topic 'to be good', I am not convinced of why we need to talk about it. The expression 'to be a good person' makes me a little nauseous, but maybe that's why it provides some interesting possibilities? For me good is the opposite of evil, and these concepts are to me completely washed-up. They belonged to a time when the word of God was more important than the king, and today neither God nor the king is the big boss and the expressions don't mean anything anymore. Talking about 'being good' is naive, utopian and idealistic at best."
